Our Task Force activities include collecting samples of Hamlin Lake water for analysis. Water samples, as well as stream and tributory flow data are collected to determine nutrient and sediment loading to the lake (Pounds per Day). Sample points are also selected in the upper and lower lakes for additional Total Phosphorus analysis. This data is valuable to us for identifying potential "hot spots" in the lake.

Review insightful information from Bruce Pelletier on Algae Blooms, along with a guide from EGLE on staying safe during a bloom. While HLPS follows EGLE’s guidance, Bruce is also in close contact with MSU to stay informed about conditions in other inland lakes across the state.
Water quality is influenced by numerous factors, and as riparians and lake users, the most important action we can take is to avoid contributing to the nutrient levels that fuel algae growth.
